|
Monday, July 23, 2007 - 10:47 AM
Joe was the victim of a cheque-fraud operation that targeted TV stars and wealthy hotel guests. The gang leader, along with some members of the gang, have now been jailed. The court heard £34,000 was stolen over a period of 15 months between September, 2004, and December, 2005.
The majority of cheques were taken from rooms at the four-star Arora Hotel in Manchester city centre, where one of Hajee's associates, Najib Khelifi, worked as a porter.
The victims included actors Joe Absolom, who played Matthew Rose in BBC's EastEnders, and Ian Puleston-Davies, who has been in BBC's Silent Witness and ITV's The Bill. |

Joe attended an event at Manor House Gardens to help the Lewisham Portage charity: CELEBRITIES, story tellers, musicians and drummers have helped to boost a charity's funds by more than £4,000.
Ex-EastEnders actor Joe Absolom and Casualty's Patrick Robinson were also among the 50 volunteers who took part in a park party at Manor House Gardens, Lee.
The money was raised for Lewisham Portage a charity for pre-school children with special needs.
Visitors took part in raffles, played hook the duck and bought plants, cakes and toys to raise the cash.
Event organiser, Phillippa Keogh, said: "We had a fantastic turnout with almost 4,000 people.
"Thankfully the rain stayed away and everyone worked really hard.
"We are over the moon by the amount of money raised." |
