First-time helmer James Abadi will direct “The Story of ___,” Magnet Films’ surreal satire of the U.K. music industry.
The $4 million budgeted feature stars Finlay Robertson as a frustrated music biz exec who accidentally invents a hit group called FUCK from a bunch of no-hopers.
Lee Boardman plays a rival who tries to steal the band and Rik Mayall plays a megalomaniac head of the record company.
Band members are played by Andrew Thomas Jones, Joe Absolom, Ameet Chana and Desire Dubounet. Tamsin Egerton also stars.
London-based Magnet co-produce with Abadi Films and CTW Productions in Budapest.
“I’m a genius and if the film isn’t a huge success, it’s someone else’s fault,” declared a not-so-bashful Adadi, who co-wrote the script with his cousin Adam Abadi.
Pic is the second feature from Gary Sinyor’s Magnet Film, following recently completed “In Your Dreams.”
